Political Bureau

The Highest Executive Organ of the SPLM Between Conferences

The Political Bureau is the highest decision-making body of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) between sessions of the National Liberation Council (NLC). As established by the SPLM Constitution, the Political Bureau provides executive leadership, sets strategic direction, and ensures the effective implementation of the Movement's policies and programs. It serves as the engine of the party, driving day-to-day operations and making critical decisions on behalf of the broader membership between formal council sessions.

Mandate & Functions

Political Direction

Provides overall political direction and guidance to the movement in line with the SPLM-IO Constitution and the resolutions of the National Liberation Council.

Policy Implementation

Implements policies and resolutions adopted by the National Liberation Council and ensures their execution across all departments and regions.

Peace & Negotiations

Oversees the movement's engagement in peace processes, negotiations, and diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in South Sudan.

Administrative Oversight

Supervises the administrative and organisational functions of the SPLM-IO, including the management of its secretariats and regional structures.

Members of the Political Bureau

The Political Bureau is composed of the Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Secretary General, and members elected by the National Liberation Council from among its membership, as provided for in the SPLM Constitution.
